The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced Thursday the establishment of a special traffic device in the capital providing for the closure of certain roads and the diversion of car traffic on others from July 1 to 6, in anticipation of the festivities marking the celebration of the 60th anniversary of independence.
“In accordance with the provisions of the decrees of the wali of Algiers closing certain roads and diverting automobile traffic (vehicles and motorcycles) from July 1 at midnight until July 6 at midnight, a special system has been put in place to facilitate traffic in the capital,” said a press release from the DGSN.
This device provides for the closure of the northern bypass (RN 11) in both directions between the junction point of the southern and northern bypasses (Pont Cosider – Dar El-Beida) and the desalination plant of El-Hamma (Belouizdad), as well as all the accesses leading to this section over 16 km.
The device also provides for a diversion of traffic on the main road to Algiers from the East-West highway to the southern ring road Dar El-Beida-Ben Aknoun. Motorists heading towards Algiers-center from the east of the capital will be diverted to the RN 5 via the El-Harrach interchange, then the RN 8 leading to Hussein Dey before joining the southern ring road.
A traffic diversion is also planned on the Algiers-center road axis towards the east of the capital towards ALN Avenue via the Aïssat-Idir interchange leading to the Place du 1er Mai.
Motorists heading towards Algiers Center through the Ben Aknoun-Dar El-Beida southern ring road will have to take the interchange leading to Hussein Dey and Bachdjerrah (towards the Oued Ouchayah tunnel).
Any updates or changes to this special feature will be communicated in due course, the statement added.
Numbers 15-48 and 17 and the digital platforms of the DGSN remain available to citizens.
