 Army foils attempts to smuggle more than 18 quintals of cannabis via borders with Morocco

   In the dynamics of the sustained efforts of the fight against terrorism and multiform organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army have carried out, during the period from 22 to 28 March 2023, many high-quality operations that reflect the high professionalism, vigilance and permanent readiness of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory:

    In the framework of the fight against terrorism, combined detachments of the People’s National Army arrested (05) elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory, while a (01) bunker with (05) bombs was discovered and destroyed after a search and sweep operation in Tizi Ouzou.

    In the framework of the fight against organised crime and in continuity of the sustained efforts aimed at countering the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined ANP detachments have arrested, in coordination with the various security services during operations carried out across the Military Regions (41) drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce huge quantities of drugs from the borders with Morocco, amounting to (18) quintals and (76) kilograms of cannabis, and seized (63730) psychotropic tablets.

    In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and In Guezzam, ANP detachments arrested (87) persons and seized (33) vehicles, (84) generators, (46) pick hammers, (02) metal detectors, (02) tons of mixed raw gold and stones, as well as quantities of explosives, detonation tools and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations, (18) other individuals were arrested, and (02) hunting rifles, quantities of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation amounting to (367) tons, (17) quintals of tobacco and (72,000) units of various pyrotechnic articles were seized during separate operations throughout the country. Similarly, the border guards foiled, in coordination with the National Gendarmerie and Customs services, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to (147485) litres in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Souk Ahras, El-Tarf and Tébessa.

    On the other hand, the coastguards have foiled, on our national coasts, attempts to illegally immigrate and rescued (177) persons on board boats of, while (928) illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested throughout the national territory.
