Chanegriha on a working and inspection visit to the Land Forces Command

General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), paid, on Sunday, a working and inspection visit to the headquarters of the Land Forces Command, reiterating, on the occasion, Algeria’s willingness to give a new dynamic to the efforts of fighting terrorism in the Sahel region and the Sahara, as well as its rejection of any form of foreign interference in the region, said a statement of the Ministry of National Defence (MDN).

“As part of the work and inspection visits to the various components of the People’s National Army, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan, General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, carried out a work and inspection visit to the headquarters of the Land Forces Command on Sunday, April 2, 2023,” stated the press release.

According to the same source, following the welcome ceremony, accompanied by Major General Mohammed Ammar Athamnya, Commander of the Land Forces, Army General Saïd Chanegriha observed a moment of remembrance in honor of the martyr and hero “Didouche Mourad,” whose name is given to the headquarters of the Command. He laid a wreath of flowers in front of his commemorative plaque and recited the Fatiha in his memory and in memory of the valiant Chouhada.

During his meeting with the cadres and personnel, the Army General gave an orientation speech, which was followed by the personnel of the units of the six military regions via the video conference system, through which he praised “the speech of the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, during the high-level debate of the UN Security Council where he recalled Algeria’s unwavering commitment to support its neighbours and African countries in their fight against terrorism and violent extremism,” the statement said.

“Algeria became aware very early on of the origins, risks and dimensions of the phenomenon of terrorism and warned the whole world of its harmful and devastating consequences. Everyone agrees that Algeria has succeeded in its fight against terrorism and thwarted its obscurantist project, thanks to the rational exploitation of its capacities and the experience acquired by its people during the glorious Liberation Revolution,” he said.

The Chief of Staff of the ANP said that ” past and present facts have shown that a rigorous and effective fight against this pernicious scourge requires the permanent pooling and coordination of efforts at the national, regional and international levels, through, in particular, the rigorous implementation of the resolutions and legal tools of the United Nations, the African Union and the related bilateral and multilateral mechanisms”.

“This was indeed highlighted by the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, in his speech at the UN Security Council High-Level Segment on Counter-Terrorism, where he affirmed that Algeria continues in the same spirit its efforts to support its neighbours and African countries in their fight against terrorism and violent extremism, guided in this by its experience, bitter but successful”, he recalled.

On this occasion, Army General Saïd Chanegriha reiterated “Algeria’s willingness to give a new impetus to efforts to combat terrorism in the Sahel and Sahara regions, emphasizing our country’s rejection of any form of foreign interference in the region, as this approach has proved to be a total failure .”

“In the same vein, Algeria’s initiative to give new impetus to efforts to combat terrorism in the Sahel and Sahara region, approved in October 2022 by the member countries of CEMOC, comprising Algeria, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger,” he recalled.

The Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army explained that “this mechanism has adopted a strategy that primarily aims for each country to take charge of combating the terrorist threat on its national territory, relying mainly on its own capacities and means, while of course, participating in a collective dynamic based on coordination and mutual assistance,” emphasizing the imperative that this aid “excludes any form of foreign interference under the guise of the fight against terrorism, since recent developments in the region have demonstrated that this approach is a total failure.”

Afterwards, the Army General presided over a working meeting, attended by the heads of divisions and staff of the Land Forces, where he followed an exhaustive presentation by the Commander of the Land Forces on the measures and provisions taken as part of the forces’ preparation program for the year 2022-2023.

On this occasion, the Army General gave a series of instructions and orientations focusing on “the need to continue combat unit and personnel preparation efforts in accordance with the plans and programs established and to create the best living and working conditions for the personnel to enable them to fully carry out their missions,” the statement concluded.
