Algerian exports outside hydrocarbons exceed $2 billion in the first semester of 2021

Algerian exports outside hydrocarbons increased during the first semester of the current year by 95.5 percent to reach $2.03 billion, according to a statement by the Ministry of Trade.

The same source stressed that during the same period in 2020, Algeria’s non-oil exports amounted to $1.04 billion.

Exports outside hydrocarbons represented 12.38 percent of the country’s total exports in the first half of this year.

Among the most important materials exported outside hydrocarbons, we find nitrogenous mineral and chemical fertilizers with $618 million, an increase of 52.4 percent over the value recorded in the same period of 2020.

Algerian iron and steel exports amounted to $370 million in the period between January and June 2021, compared to $21.59 million in the same period last year, an increase of 1614 percent.

As for inorganic chemicals, they also recorded a significant increase of 200 percent in the first half of 2020, reaching $343 million, compared to $114.23 million in the same period last year.

For its part, foodstuffs increased to $287 million, which represents an increase of 37 percent on a year-to-year basis.

Algerian sugar exports also witnessed an increase of 55.5 percent to reach $206, while the amount of exported mineral industries increased to $141, an estimated rate of 7 percent, according to the figures contained in the statement of the Ministry of Trade.
