An attempt to smuggle a large quantity of kif via Morocco thwarted

In the dynamics of the sustained efforts in the fight against terrorism and multiform organized crime, units and detachments of the National People’s Army have carried out, during the period from 11 to 17 January 2023, several operations that led to quality results that reflect the high professionalism, vigilance and permanent availability of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory:

In the framework of the fight against terrorism, combined detachments of the National Popular Army arrested (09) elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory.

In the framework of the fight against organized crime and in continuity of the sustained efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the National Popular Army arrested, in coordination with the various security services during operations carried out throughout the Military Regions, (63) drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce huge quantities of drugs from the borders with Morocco, amounting to (07) quintals and (52.2) kilograms of cannabis, while (1.35) kilograms of cocaine and (72949) psychotropic tablets were seized.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam and Tindouf, detachments of the People’s National Army intercepted (180) persons and seized (02) Kalashnikov machine guns, (48) vehicles, (54) power generators, (71) pick hammers, (07) metal detectors, (17.2) tons of stone and raw gold mix, as well as quantities of explosives, (71) pick hammers, (07) metal detectors, (17.2) tons of stone and raw gold mix, as well as quantities of explosives, detonation tools and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations, while (13) other persons were arrested and (12) hunting rifles, (03) automatic pistols, (159.7) tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation, as well as (1,475) units of various beverages were seized during various operations throughout the country. In the same way, the border guards foiled, in coordination with the National Gendarmerie services, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to (38860) litres in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Tamanrasset, Souk Ahras, El-Tarf and Tébessa.

In addition, the coastguards have foiled attempts of illegal migration and have succeeded in rescuing 79 individuals on board small boats, while 242 illegal migrants of different nationalities have been arrested throughout the country.
