Arkab: Preparations are underway for 7th Summit of Heads of Gas Exporting Countries Forum to be held in Algeria in 2023

Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, participated at the head of a delegation made up of executives from his ministry and Sonatrach group, in the twenty-fourth ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held today, Tuesday in Cairo (Egypt).

During this meeting, Mr. Arkab gave an overview of the ongoing preparations for the Seventh Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which will be held in Algiers in 2023, and stressed the importance of this meeting to formulate and present the best solutions that the world needs for long-term energy security and for the return of natural gas to its right place as an essential energy for sustainable development and energy transition.

This meeting was marked by the participation of energy ministers and senior officials from the forum member countries (Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela), as well as the observer countries (Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mozambique, Norway, Peru and the United Arab Emirates). ).

The meeting was an opportunity to express support for African countries in their struggle to reduce energy poverty and achieve prosperity for their people.

The importance of cooperation and coordination among member countries and real and enhanced dialogue between producers, consumers and other relevant stakeholders with a view to ensuring the security of demand and supply, as well as open and transparent dialogue for non-discriminatory gas markets, was also emphasized.

On the sidelines of this ministerial meeting, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held a bilateral meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla, during which the two ministers reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and mines and the opportunities available for its development.
