Speaker of the Council of the Nation Salah Goudjil held today, Wednesday, a consultative session with the heads of parliamentary groups that was marked by “consensus” on renewing the structures of this body in the remainder of the current parliamentary session, with the aim of adopting the election to access positions of responsibility.
A statement issued by the Parliament’s upper house indicated that “the Speaker of the Council of the Nation Salah Goudjil held, today, Wednesday, a consultative session with the heads of parliamentary groups, which focused mainly on the process of renewing the organs and bodies of the Council of the Nation for the year 2021, and this is in implementation of the principle of annual election of official structures of the Council enshrined in the internal law of the Council of the Nation, and also in implementation of what was stated in the meeting of the Council’s office held yesterday, Tuesday 22nd, regarding the adoption of election in the process of renewing structures.”
This falls within the framework of “the endeavor aimed at settling the election criterion for assuming positions of responsibility in organs and bodies of the Council of the Nation, in order to deepen the democratic practice within the institution,” as “it was agreed that this process would take place during the remainder of the current regular parliamentary session.”
The meeting also constituted an opportunity for the Speaker of the Council of the Nation and the heads of parliamentary groups to “emphasize the role entrusted to all national actors, in order to stand in the face of the challenges imposed by the current and future phases, which call for greater harmony and more values of sincerity, loyalty and steadfastness on positions, and placing Algeria’s interest above all considerations.”.
It is worth recalling that, the office of the Council of the Nation decided, at yesterday’s meeting, “to initiate the process (renewing the organs and structures of the Council of the Nation), with the aim of adopting the principle of election in assuming positions of responsibility for the council organs and bodies, provided that the date of the renewal process is determined in coordination and consultation with parliamentary groups represented in the Council.
