Crisis in Libya: Lamamra holds talks with UN envoy Jan Kubis

Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra received Sunday in Algiers UN special envoy for Libya, Jan Kubis, with whom he discussed the prospects for peace in Libya on the eve of a meeting of Libya’s neighboring countries scheduled over two days in Algiers.

In a statement to the press following the meeting, Jan Kubis said that the initiative of Algeria to bring together Libya’s neighbors is “important and timely,” stressing a “significant step” in the settlement of the Libyan crisis.

The UN envoy expressed the wish “to have a pragmatic and honest dialogue on how to help Libya and also on how Libya could help itself and help the region to move towards stability, prosperity and cooperation.

Regarding the Libyan file “the questions and concerns are intertwined,” said Jan Kubis who called for taking advantage of the consultations and cooperation of Libya with neighboring countries and international organizations for a way out of the crisis in Libya.
