France’s ambassador to Algiers lays a wreath at the Bouzid Saal memorial in Setif

France’s ambassador to Algeria, François Goyette, arrived in Setif today, Saturday, where he laid a wreath at Bouzid Saal memorial, the first martyr in the massacres of May 8, 1945.

The Governor of the province of Setif, Kamel Abla, told the media on the sidelines of the National Forum on “Colonial Crimes in the World, May 8, 1945 as an example” organized on the occasion of the celebration of the National Day of Memory and the 76th anniversary of the massacres of May 8, 1945 in the House of Culture “Houari Boumediene”, that the French ambassador to Algeria came to Setif, on instructions from French President Emmanuel Macron, to lay a wreath at the memorial of martyr Bouzid Saal.

Kamel Abla added that the visit of the French ambassador to Setif was for a specific mission, which was to lay a wreath at the memorial of the martyr, Bouzid Saal.

It’s worth noting that, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressed in his message on the occasion of the National Day of Memory, which commemorates the massacres of May 8, 1945, that the quality of relations with the Republic of France will not be fulfilled without taking into account the history and settling the memory files which cannot be waived whatever the case and regardless of the justifications, stressing the need to deal with these files with seriousness and wisdom.

He said that the Algerian and French peoples are looking forward to a quantum leap towards a better future marked by trust and understanding, beneficial for both in the framework of mutual respect and equality in which the interests of the two countries are preserved.

It’s worth recalling that the official celebrations of the National Day of Memory and the 76th anniversary of the massacres of May 8, 1945, are continuing in the province of Setif with the organization of several cultural and historical activities and the inauguration of educational facilities.

The event is attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Mujaheddin or war veterans and Rights-holders, Laïd Rabbika, the advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the National Archives and the Memory File, Abdelmadjid Chikhi, the Secretary-General of the National Organization for the Sons of the Mujahideen, Khalfa Mbarek and the President of the Association on May 8, 1945, Abdelhamid Slakji, as well as the representative of the Acting Secretary-General of the National Organization of Mujahidin , Abdelaziz Fouhal.
