Josep Borrell on a visit to Algeria starting from Sunday

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, will begin a two-day visit to Algeria starting from Sunday, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad on Saturday.

“The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, will visit Algeria on March 12 and 13, 2023,” the statement said.

During this visit, which will be Mr. Borrell’s first visit to Algeria since taking office in December 2019, “the EU High Representative will be received in audience by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as by the Prime Minister, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane,” the same source added.

According to the ministry’s statement, “the visit of the EU High Representative follows the visit to Algeria by the President of the European Council, Mr. Charles Michel, in September 2022, marking the desire of Algeria and the EU to enhance their cooperation in all areas.”

This visit will be an opportunity “to continue the political dialogue between the two parties and to take stock of the cooperation and prospects for its deepening, within the framework of a balanced and adapted implementation of the Algeria-EU Association Agreement.”

“Furthermore, this bilateral stopover will allow the two partners to examine regional and international issues of common interest, including the Sahel, Libya, Western Sahara, and the Palestinian issue,” the statement concluded.
