The parliamentary channel of the Algerian Television Corporation, whose broadcast was officially launched today, Thursday in Algiers, is an embodiment of one of the commitments of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to consolidate democratic practice and enhance participation in political action.

During the broadcast launch ceremony, which took place under the supervision of the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Salah Goudjil, the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Brahim Boughali, and the Prime Minister, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane, the Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohamed Bouslimani, the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Mrs. Basma Azouar, as well as the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Samir Agoune, the head of the Audiovisual Control Authority, Mohamed Louber, members of the two chambers of Parliament and officials of public media institutions, Mr. Salah Goudjil emphasized that this new media edifice is “another building block of the institutional building of the new Algeria.”

In this regard, the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Salah Goudjil, stressed, in a speech on the occasion, that the establishment of the parliamentary channel comes within the framework of “the path of building a new Algeria, the establishment of real democracy, and the construction of present and future institutions in order to strengthen Algeria’s position, especially in the current stage that requires strengthening the internal front.” .

He explained that one of the channel’s tasks is “to highlight the true democratic practice by highlighting the various parliamentary activities, strengthening the oversight work on the executive body and introducing parliamentary diplomacy,” adding that the work of this channel “is not limited to the two chambers of parliament only, but will also include the state and municipal local councils in order to explain how it works within the framework of consolidating the concept of participatory democracy at the grassroots level.”

In turn, the President of the People’s National Assembly, Mr. Boughali, stressed that the launch of the parliamentary channel is “a proof of the sincerity of intentions and the will to act in building a new Algeria, the features of which Algerians have begun to see,” recalling that the channel “is within the commitments of the President of the Republic, which are being realized day after day in all fields.” .

He pointed out that this new media space “will inevitably give an addition to the specialized media scene, contribute to strengthening parliamentary work, give the true image of Parliament, and open horizons of communication to expand the circle of transparency and the involvement of society in legislative action, in a manner that consolidates the foundations of democracy whose features have become clear through the rebuilding of constitutional institutions through the path of the free will of the Algerian people.

Mr. Boughali highlighted that the launch of this channel “coincides with the initiative to gather words, unite ranks, strengthen the home front, and valorize national cohesion to face the challenges posed by regional and international realities,” reiterating his commitment to “supporting this initiative and working within its framework because it is the source of wisdom and insight.”

In a speech delivered on the occasion, Prime Minister Benabderrahmane affirmed, “The launch of a specialized television channel concerned with parliamentary life is an embodiment of one of the 54 commitments undertaken by the President of the Republic and a qualitative addition within a well-defined path that consolidates democratic practice and enhances participation in political action in our country. “.

He explained that this media experience would “correct the imbalances that continued to plague Parliament’s institutional communication with its two chambers, given the constitutional status of the legislative authority,” considering that this new media edifice is “a national gain that will undoubtedly contribute to building bridges of trust between the voter and the elected, it plays a role in establishing a culture of dialogue, accepting criticism and differences, and listening to others, regardless of their orientations.”

For his part, Minister of Communications, Mr. Bouslimani, considered the launch of the first public parliamentary TV channel in Algeria to be of “extreme importance”, as this channel falls within the framework of “the policy of developing the media landscape and strengthening the relevant institutional edifice enshrined in Article 54 of the 2020 constitution.”

This channel, the minister adds, “will contribute to strengthening the citizen’s right to truthful and objective information and strengthening the role of institutional media, through a professional performance that develops the relationship of trust between the citizen and the various national institutions and bodies,” as it will “contribute to creating a relationship of integration and coordination between Parliament and the rest of the country institutions” in order to support efforts to build a new Algeria and to counter the hostile schemes targeting Algeria through fourth-generation wars.

For his part, the Director-General of the General Organization for Algerian Television, Mr. Chabane Lounakel, said that with the launch of the Parliamentary Channel, the Algerian Television Complex “rises to the ranks of the largest television complexes at the Arab and African level, in terms of the number of television channels as well as the hourly volume of daily broadcasts estimated at 206 hours, equivalent to 75,000 hours per year.
