Minister of Education calls on unions to contribute to vaccination campaign for sector’s staff to ensure safe school year start

The Minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belabed, called today, Monday here in Algiers, the unions of the sector to contribute to the vaccination campaign for the education staff against the Coronavirus, to ensure a “safe, stable and serene” school year start.

In a statement to the press, after supervising the opening of a participatory meeting attended by representatives of 24 unions, Mr. Belabed called on social partners to contribute to “carrying-out a broad vaccination campaign for the employees of the national education sector, to ensure a safe school year start,” stressing that “this broad vaccination campaign comes as a confirmation of what was stated by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, regarding the school year start, during the cabinet meeting held yesterday, Sunday.

According to the first official in charge of the sector, this meeting, which took place behind closed doors, is marked by the presence of 24 approved unions, noting that it is expected that “other unions will join the participatory meetings after completing the legal procedures.”

Mr. Belabed stated that this meeting is considered a “starting point for a participatory, social and professional work” with all unions, in preparation for the school year (2021-2022).

In this regard, Mr. Belabed indicated that the meeting will also be “an opportunity for the unions to learn about the roadmap approved by the ministry and inform them of the decisions and measures taken regarding the upcoming school year start,” adding that he expects the unions to “present their views and concerns as well as their suggestions for the upcoming school year”.
