Director of veterinary services at Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ahmed Chawki Karim Boughalem, revealed today that an H5N8 bird flu epidemic was discovered in the municipality of Ain-alfakroun in the province of Oum El Bouaghi. These cases were found in a poultry farm after a veterinary investigation, adding that his veterinary staff did not record any other cases after cleaning up the farm.
A total of 51,000 chickens from a private poultry farm in Ain-alfakroun have been decimated by bird flu, and 2000 were slaughtered in the same farm, declared Mr. Boughalem in a special statement to Algerian television.
