Mohamed Arkab participates in 23rd Ministerial Meeting of Gas Exporting Countries Forum

Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, participates today, Tuesday in the 23rd ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) from Abu Dhabi, via remote videoconference, which will appoint the new Secretary-General of the forum, according to a ministry press release.

This meeting will be chaired by the Bolivian Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Franklin Molina Ortiz, and the Secretary General of the Forum, Yuri Sentyurin.

During this meeting, the participating countries will elect the new Secretary-General of the Forum from among five (05) candidates, including the one submitted by Algeria, in addition to studying the other items on the agenda, the same source adds.

Other key items on the agenda include preparations for the Sixth Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in Doha in 2022, as well as a review of the forum’s major publications such as the Global Gas Outlook 2050, the annual short-term gas market report and the annual statistical bulletin.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum includes 11 member states, namely Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.

It also includes 9 observer countries, namely Angola, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Malaysia, Norway, Peru, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
