Preparation for a huge march in Spain in solidarity with Sahrawi people

Spanish civil society organizations which support the Sahrawi cause are preparing to organize a huge march next May in Spain, in solidarity with the Sahrawi people and in defense of their freedom, according to statement issued yesterday, Thursday by the Sahara News Agency.

A large march in defense of the freedom of the Sahrawi people is scheduled to start from the city of Cádiz in Andalusia next May 20 and finish in the capital Madrid on June 19, with the participation of several branches from Canarias, Baleares, Galicia, Cantabria, Navarra, La Rioja, Catalonia, Extremadura, Castilla Leon, Castilla La Mancha, and Province of Valencia.

During the month-long solidarity march, several activities and events will be organized, to show the commitment of the Spanish civil society to stand by the just cause of Western Sahara.

The idea of ​​the march for the freedom of the Sahrawi people began to take shape at the end of last year 2020, embodying the response of civil society in the wake of the return of the armed conflict, last November in the region of Guerguerat, following the violation of the ceasefire by Morocco.

The starting point of the march will be the city of Cádiz in Andalusia on May 20, and its branches will start from the aforementioned provinces days ahead.

The participants intend to organize various stops and activities during the march towards Andalusia in many villages and large cities, to renew the solidarity of the components of the Spanish civil society with the Western Sahara issue, and to continue building this initiative, which also enjoys the support of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and the Polisario Front as the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people. .

And with the gathering of the branches of the Solidarity March in Madrid on June 19, a great festival will be held with the participation of all.

Dozens of solidarity associations were able to include in this initiative many political parties and trade unions.

Sahara News Agency quoted the organizers of the march as saying that “it is expected that the latter will receive the attention of the media to break the blackout imposed on the situation of war in the Western Sahara, and on the long-standing conflict that the Moroccan regime exploited in favor of its expansionist ambitions.”
