Signature of an agreement between the Ministries of Religious Affairs and Energy Transition

Ministries of Religious Affairs and Wakfs and of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies signed on Sunday in Algiers a cooperation agreement  aimed at “developing the use of renewable energies” in the various Quran educational institutions and religious facilities in Algeria.

Signed by the Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, Youcef Belmehdi, and the Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Benatou Ziane, the agreement aims to “develop the use of renewable energies in the various Quranic teaching structures, including Quranic schools, Zaouias, specialised training institutes and mosques, as well as Islamic cultural centres across all the country’s provinces”.

Speaking on the occasion, Belmehdi said that “the mainstreaming use of this energy mode in the structures of the sector is not a new, as it is a step reflecting the willingness of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Wakfs to apply the action plan of the government and implement the program of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which aims to mainstream the uses of renewable energy in all areas.

He recalled, in this regard, that many elements have been integrated in the file of the standard plans for the construction of mosques, including the use of energy saving mechanisms, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies.

The supply of energy-saving lamps to mosques and the promotion of renewable energies during the holy month of Ramadhan will be accompanied by an awareness-raising campaign for citizens on the use of this energy, Belmehdi said, adding that “religious discourse contributes to the dissemination of the culture of economy and awareness against waste.

For his part, Mr Benatou recalled that his department “collaborates with several sectors”, noting that the agreement signed today with the Department of Religious Affairs follows the experience of the Green Mosque of Sidi Abdellah (Algiers).

He also stressed that the importance of this agreement lies in the implementation of an action plan to raise citizens’ awareness on the need to avoid wasting energy.

“The agreement also aims to set up a coordination platform to promote the mechanisms of cooperation between the two sectors and promote the use of renewable energies, and this, within the framework of the commitments of the President of the Republic in addition to the use of economic devices and the training of managers of the religious affairs sector in the field of renewable energies,” he stressed.

Mr. Benatou mentioned, in this sense, “the launching of the operation of generalization of the use of renewable energies through the mosques of the Republic, including those existing in enclaved zones”, affirming that “the agreement signed today covers the intelligent lighting and the economic equipment”.
