Speaker of the Council of the Nation sets up Parliamentary Committee on scarcity of foodstuffs of wide consumption

The Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, supervised, Thursday in Algiers, the inauguration of the Parliamentary Committee for Inquiry and Investigation into the dilemma of the scarcity of some foodstuffs of wide consumption, which will begin its work from January 16, across 14 border povinces.

While presiding over a meeting of the office of the Council of the Nation, extending to the heads of parliamentary groups and members of the council, Mr. Goudjil said that in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and in implementation of the outcomes of the meeting of the office of the Council of the Nation to the heads of parliamentary groups and the parliamentary observer, last Saturday, that the Parliamentary Committee to inquire and investigate the dilemma of scarcity, illegal speculation, and monopoly that affected some commodities of wide consumption,  « will, in a first stage, begin its work as of Sunday, January 16, 2022, by descending to all border provinces. »

Mr. Goudjil reminded the members of this committee of the responsibility entrusted to them, in view of the “national dimension that has become covered by the war declared by the state under the leadership of the President of the Republic against the masterminds of these irresponsible, lawless acts and those who manipulate the livelihood and power of citizens.”

In the same context, he added, “All energies and efforts must be unified in order to contribute to resolving this dilemma, to take the measures that remain necessary in order to address the shortcomings and ink the practices that were the cause of this.”
