Syria earthquake: death toll rises to 1,414

Syria’s February 6 earthquake has left 1,414 people dead and 2,357 injured, Syrian Health Ministry Hassan Ghabbach said on Tuesday, according to SANA news agency.

According to a statement to SANA, Ghabbach said that “medical and emergency response teams have been mobilized around the clock to reach all victims, remove them from the rubble and hospitalize the injured, in coordination with all concerned parties.

At dawn on February 6, an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck southern Turkey and northern Syria.

In Turkey, the official death toll had risen to 31 as of Tuesday morning. 974 people died and more than 81,000 were injured.
