The swearing in ceremony of Mr. Abdul Latif Rashid as the new president of the Republic of Iraqi took place today Monday, at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
The House of Representatives, earlier, elected Abdul Latif Rashid as President of the Republic of Iraq, after obtaining a majority in the second round of the voting process for the position in which he competed with candidate Barham Salih. Rashid obtained 162 votes, while Salih won 99 votes and 8 votes were considered invalid.
The new Iraqi president expressed his hope to speed up the formation of the new government, while stressing to make all efforts to protect the constitution.
