The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced today that the death toll from the earthquake that struck southern Turkey on Monday reached 6,957 dead and 38,224 injured.
Previously, the earthquake that hit Kahramanmaraş province in southeastern Turkey with a magnitude of 8.7 on the Richter scale had resulted in 6,234 deaths and 37,000 injuries, with 11 others missing.
The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, declared a nationwide state of mourning for seven days in response to the powerful earthquake in southern Turkey and declared a state of emergency for three months in ten provinces.
