Seven people were killed and 275 others were injured in 225 traffic accidents in urban areas during the period from 10 to 16 August, according to a toll reported today, Thursday, by the National Security Services.
Compared to the statistics recorded last week, the number of traffic accidents decreased by (-16) and the number of wounded by (-21), while the deaths increased by one (+1).
The relevant data indicate that the causes of these accidents are primarily due to the human factor, with a percentage of more than 94%, as a result of non-respect of the traffic law, non-compliance with the safety distance, excessive speed, fatigue and lack of concentration when driving, in addition to other reasons related to the vehicle.
In this context, the General Directorate of National Security renews its call to public road users to respect the traffic law and to exercise caution while driving.
The Directorate also puts at the disposal of citizens the green number 1548 and the emergency line 17 to receive reports 24/7.
