Boxer Mohamed Flisi and swimmer Amal Melih will carry the flag of the Algerian delegation during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
For the first time in the history of the Olympics, two athletes, a man and a woman, will carry the flag representing the Algerian delegation at the opening ceremony, after the International Olympic Committee allowed it for all participating countries.
The Vice-President of the Olympic Committee and the President of the Algerian Federation of Athletics, Yacine Loail, indicated that weightlifter, Waldi Bidani and runner Loubna Benhaja, in turn, will receive the torch, during the closing ceremony of Tokyo Olympics.
Flisi (31 years) is participating for the third time in the Olympics, after Rio de Janeiro 2016 and London 2012, while Melih (27 years old) is participating for the first time in the Olympic Games.
It is worth noting that wrestler Sonia Asla was the one who carried the national flag during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
It’s worth recalling that 44 Algerian athletes in 14 disciplines have qualified to represent Algeria at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
