Chess World Cup 2021: Three Algerians qualified for the Sochi Games

Algeria will be represented by three chess players at Chess World Cup (men and women), to be held in Sochi (Russia) from July 10 to August 3, the Algerian Chess Federation (FADE) announced Thursday on its official Facebook page.

The three players are Billel Bellahcene, Latreche Sabrina, and Amina Mezioud, the same source said. The first named is in Lilongwe (Malawi), where he is participating in the African Chess Championship (individual), which closes this Friday.

During this continental event, a qualifier for the Sochi World Cup, the Algerian Nassr Lina won the silver medal on Thursday.

The national technical director (DTN) Hatem Ouldrouis, explained that the objective of this participation “is to pick up one of the medals and a qualification for the World Cup for men, and to win the women’s title”.

Algeria took part in this African Championship ( individuals) with five athletes, including two girls: Billel Bellahcene, Talbi Chafik, Nacer Ali, Nassr Lina, and Nasser Manel.
