Oran Mediterranean Games 2022: Opening of Sig Sports Pole

The new sports pole of the city of Sig, which will host part of the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022, was inaugurated yesterday evening,.

This pole, which was inaugurated by Governor Abdelkhalek Sayouda and in the presence of the National Liberation Front football player Mohamed Maouch on the occasion of the commemoration of the 66th anniversary of the martyrdom of the hero Ahmed Zabana, includes five “important” sports facilities represented in a multi-sports hall with a capacity of 500 seats that will host competitions in Handball, volleyball and basketball specialties, as well as the availability of four changing rooms, a cafe and a multi-activity room, according to the explanations provided by the Director of Youth and Sports, Lahcen Laadjadj.

The same sports facility also includes an Olympic swimming pool containing a 50-meter swimming pool, a 25-meter beginner’s pool, a 600-seat amphitheater, a café, two multi-activity rooms, and another for water purification and filtration system, as well as an athletics stadium covering an area of ​​20,000 square meters. It contains grandstands with a capacity of 1,000 seats, a floor covered with natural grass, an automatic watering system, an eight-lane track, three changing rooms, two nursing rooms, multi-activity and other technical areas.

This sports pole also has a football field with a capacity of 20,000 spectators, with a floor covered with natural grass, six changing rooms, four rooms for testing athletes for doping, nursing and lectures, an honor hall, a café and small restaurants under the stands.

The same stadium also includes 12 electronic entrances and 13 electronic gates dedicated to spectators, according to the same official. This sports facility is equipped with 143 surveillance cameras.

From June 25 to July 6th 2022, on the occasion of the Mediterranean Games of Oran – 2022, this sports pole will host nine football matches, as well as training for the teams participating in the Mediterranean Games in swimming and water polo, according to the same source.

The director of youth and sports for the wilaya revealed that this sports facility is currently 100 percent ready to receive some of the competitions of the Oran Mediterranean Games 2022.

On the sidelines of the opening ceremony of this sports pole, which the state authorities  named after the late Mujahid, the player of the National Liberation Front team, Karoum Abdelkrim, many youth, artistic and sports activities to promote this international sports event, including the establishment of a large parade with the participation of two thousand young men and children involved in youth and sports associations and facilities, which started in front of the headquarters of the Siq Department, passing through the main street of the city, all the way to the same pole.
