Minister of Communication, Ammar Belhimer, supervised, yesterday, at the headquarters of the Algerian TV, the launch of  “Youth Channel” in the presence of the Director General of Public Television, Chabane Lounakel, and the Director General of the National Radio, Mohamed Baghali.

The minister said: “The launch of this thematic channel comes a year after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s instructions regarding the strengthening of institutional communication and the public press by launching a parliamentary channel and a youth channel.”

On this occasion, the Minister of Communication stressed: “I am honored to extend my sincere congratulations to the national media family, hoping that this young institution will contribute to strengthening the pluralistic, competitive, free and responsible media landscape.”

Belhimer congratulated the Algerian youth on this achievement and went on to say: “I invite them to be loyal to the predecessors who honored the profession of media and communication, and were loyal to their national and professional duty, especially in light of the difficult circumstances that our country went through, starting with the revolutions of resistance and the glorious liberation war, and then the heinous terrorism.”

Belhimer considered: “This honorable gain is an incentive for our youth to innovate and control the new media, which has become a reality by which countries are measured in mastering digitization and extending their media influence on the largest scale.” He also did not miss the opportunity to call upon: “Our daughters and sons to invest in the political will supportive of equal opportunities and competencies in various fields, which constitute a priority axis in the program of the President of the Republic.

The Minister of Communication renewed his congratulations to the channel’s crew and the media family in its public and private sectors, wishing them all success and brilliance.

For his part, the director of the youth channel project, Rafik Fares, said: “This project came at a time when the media and communication field is characterized by complexity and this new media and communication environment will constitute a challenge for local channels and national public opinion, in addition to commercial channels and social network platforms which have become a major competitor  both on the local and international level.

He added: “Youth TV channels need to invest in social networks as a solid platform to communicate with broad youth groups in a way that ensures the popularity of television production.”

Fares stressed: “The project has a website and a vision for social networks and broadcasting via digital applications.” As for the channel’s general policy, it is based on the principles of public service, freedom of expression, professional ethics, added value, neighborhood principles, excellence and the principle of opinion and differing views.

In his speech on the occasion, Belhimer said: “It is a great honor to witness together the launch of the public youth channel weeks after the 59th anniversary of Independence and Youth Days.”
