Sayhi: Preventive medicine is a “fundamental pillar” in the health sector programme

The Minister of Health, Abdelhak Sayhi, affirmed today, Monday in Algiers, that preventive medicine represents a “fundamental pillar” in the sector’s program by monitoring epidemics and protecting citizens from reaching the stage of treatment.

In his speech during the proceedings of the National Forum on “Restructuring Epidemiological Services and Preventive Medicine”, Mr. Sayhi emphasized the role of prevention in public health in order to put the sector on the “right track” and prevent diseases that have become widespread in recent years.

Regarding the complementary role between hospitalization and preventive activity, the minister explained that the work carried out by the health sector falls within the framework of “taking care of the sick”, but protecting a healthy person – as he said – is also “an important matter by keeping epidemics away from them.”

Sayhi stressed the “positive results” achieved by preventive medicine earlier through “simple measures, such as awareness-raising and health education,” adding that the current circumstances require “giving preventive activities a great place and sparing no effort to develop this aspect, which has shown its effectiveness in the field.” “.
